Welcome to the ENL page.
ENL stands for: English as a New Language. We support students in their classrooms and help them make their work understandable. Our students work twice as hard as they need to understand their class material and learn English as they move along. Our programs runs from grades 3 through 6.
Every year, English Language Learners (ENL students: ELLs) take the yearly state test called NYSESLAT in May. (NYSESLAT stands for: New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test.) It measures their progress in our program and informs us how much service to provide them the following year. This comprehensive test covers speaking, listening, reading and writing skills. It takes various days to complete the exam and we will be contacting you to let you know when it’s that time of the year again.
There are five levels of achievement: Entering, Emerging, Transitioning, Expanding, and Commanding. Once they reach Commanding, they exit the program, but we still extend service by helping them in the classroom for two more years. Even when they score commanding, they are considered to be 75-80% proficient. They will still have more growth in their English language acquisition.

Las siglas de ENL significa Inglés como Nuevo Idioma en el inglés. Apoyamos a los estudiantes en sus clases y les ayudamos a hacer comprensible su material de clase. Nuestros estudiantes trabajan el doble de los demás ya que necesitan comprender el material de clase y aprender inglés a la misma vez. Nuestro programa se extiende por todos los grados 3 a 6.
Cada año, los estudiantes del idioma inglés (a los estudiantes de ENL se les refiere como ELLs) toman el examen estatal anual llamado NYSESLAT en mayo (NYSESLAT significa: Examen de Avance en Inglés como Segundo Idioma del Estado de Nueva York). El examen mide el progreso del alumno en nuestro programa y nos informa cuánto servicio brindarles el año siguiente. Esta prueba integral cubre las habilidades de hablar, escuchar, leer y escribir. Se necesitan varios días para completar el examen y nos pondremos en contacto con usted para informarle cuando estemos en esa época del año.
Hay cinco niveles de logro: Entrante, Emergente, Transicionante, Expandiente y Dominante. Una vez que alcanzan el Dominante, salen del programa, pero aún así extendemos el servicio ayudándolos en el aula durante dos años más. Incluso cuando obtienen una puntuación Dominante, se considera que son entre un 75 y 80% competentes en el idioma. Todavía tendrán más crecimiento en su adquisición del idioma inglés.
